The Voyager School

Sub Navigation

Project Description

The Voyager School is to be a brand new coeducational and multi-ethnic community comprehensive school with 1,675 students aged 11 to 19 including 240 sixth form students.

The school is currently seeking sponsorship for specialist media arts college status, will be built on the Walton site to replace both Walton and Bretton Woods schools.

This landmark building will have a high level of environmental efficiency and flexible state of the art facilities, organised around a central internal ‘street’ showcasing the arts facilities.  The school will also include a sports hall, assembly hall, ICT areas and a nursery, along with a restaurant to be open 12 hours a day to encourage wider community involvement.

Outside, carefully considered landscaping and elevational treatments will give the school a commanding presence that is also sympathetic to its surroundings.  The existing Walton school buildings will be demolished following completion of the new school to provide extra playing fields.

The works at Voyager School involve the following:

EXTERNAL AREAS

  • Access road, drop off area, school paths
  • Sports pitches and two hard play areas
  • Landscaping development (between fingers and front building areas)
  • 200 car parking spaces/Cycle stand for 500 bikes

NEW BUILT AREAS (~ 16,000m NIA)

  • Two main buildings mark the entrance of the new building (Block G and H)
  • Block G will contain an assembly hall, nursery, library facilities and school administration offices
  • Block H will be the home of the sports facilities including a sports hall, fitness gym, e-learning and SEN facilities

An internal street marks the limit between the two main blocks where facilities are accessible for both community users and school students (Blocks G and H) and strictly student areas (Block A, B, C, D, E and F).

A kitchen/dining facilities are located at one end of the street and will serve the community, school staff and students.
