Our Initiatives

Impacting positively on the community

Winning design. The flag will be greeting everyone from the top of one of the cranes.
Pupils visiting the site in September

From day one Bouygues UK is committed to involve and give back to the local communities. Relying on our previous successful initiatives developed for Jo Richardson Community School and Eastbury Comprehensive School, here is more information on the initiative we are developing on Voyager School:

Developing relationships:

Weekly visits by staff, pupils and governors so they can witness and be involved in the construction process.  On a recent site visit students and teachers from Walton School could see the progress that made on site since the beginning of the summer holidays.  The students were keen to learn about all aspects of the construction of the school from how the foundations are laid to the operation of the two tower cranes on site.  They all marvelled at the height the crane operators climbed everyday to their place of work.

Lee Doxey one of the students on the visit told that he saw lots of rooms, all in different shapes and sizes.  “I saw builders constructing the rooms and two large cranes.  I felt excited seeing The Voyager actually being built.  My heart was pumping quickly and my brain was overflowing with information.”  When asked how he thought the school would turn out he commented “I think the Voyager will be a great success.  I would like to thank Mr Surrage, Mr Campbell, the builders and members of staff for showing me around”.

  • Involvement in up and coming parent/student evenings for the new Voyager school so that they can be informed of progress of works.
  • Open evenings for local residents to view the site and be updated on the progress of works.  An opportunity to feel part of this exciting project.
  • Last term competition run at Walton School to design a flag for one of the Tower Cranes.  A prize and presentation made in the school assembly for the winning design.  The flag ceremony will take place at The Voyager site in the near future.
  • Close partnership with Hugh Howe, Head Teacher for The Voyager School.  The Head Teacher is kept up to date on all aspects of the project and participates in weekly progress meetings and visits. He is enjoying seeing how quickly the school is rising from the ground.  Pascal Lux (Site Manager) commented on how he enjoys his partnership with Hugh Howe “Hugh is really bringing a lot of energy and charisma to the project”.
  • A tour of the site is planned in October by PCC Chief Executive, Gillian Beasley together with Mohammed Mehmet PCC Director of Children’s Services and Councillor Ridgway.
